Thunder Press Release:

The Union Junior Thunder are happy to announce affiliation with the New Jersey Bears of the EHL (previously Protec Ducks). We are excited to grow our footprint in the region and state, but also thrilled to have a development path to further our players growth. The Thunder will work side by side with The New Jersey Bears, and players will now have the opportunity to advance with a direct path. The Thunder will be going into its second year as an EHLP franchise. Affiliating with a strong proven EHL program, like The New Jersey Bears, was always a goal of GM Matt Anderson and Head Coach Sam Tafel when starting this program to increase the opportunities as well as development for their players.

Head Coach/GM of the New Jersey Bears, Terry Watt, will be working closely with our staff and players to enhance the growth of both organizations. Terry has had major successes with the Protec Ducks EHL & 18U AAA teams and have helped players move up to the next level and has been a leader in NCAA commitments at the EHL level.

The Bear’s franchise has been one of the top producers of NCAA commitments in the EHL, while always being among the top teams in the standings. Adding an EHLP team will allow an increased player pool within the organization, and more opportunities for advancement and growth for individuals; now having a u18 AAA team and EHLP team under its umbrella. The Bears are a leader and proven hub in the Atlantic District for development and advancement to NCAA & Tier 2 junior hockey.
